Amy Roberts, Ph D, Introduces Sport and Health Science to SAN FRANCISCO

Amy Roberts, Ph.D. and nationally recognized expert in cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, and athletic performance, relocates her business, Sport and Health Science to Amarna Medical Clinic in San Francisco. Sport and Health Science bridges the gap between sport and health with the practical application of cutting edge science.

Amy helps clients understand and apply the latest scientific advances in cardiovascular health and nutrition, sports science, cholesterol management, weight loss and gain, diabetic nutrition, and athletic performance. In opening Sport and Health Science, Amy seeks "to help close the gap between scientists, who talk in terms of lactate thresholds and maximum oxygen uptake, and ordinary folks who spend a lot of time pouring through fitness magazines, trying to make sense of conflicting claims, a lot of them lacking any form of valid testing."

Amy's approach to testing and consulting is designed to meet each client's individual needs. Based on initial 15 minute consultation, Amy assesses each client's goals and designs a customized program to occur over 6 visits, with unlimited access to her tests or services on each visit. This unique format allows Amy to work with very different clients and does not impose a time limit on her availability to help clients reach their goal. No two 6 visit programs are alike. For example, an elite athlete training for his first ironman distance triathalon next fall completes 2 of his 6 visits. While the first visits help him with general nutrition for sport, he chooses to participate in his remaining visits closer to the ironman event so that he can focus specifically on triathalon training. On his first visit, Amy measures his % body fat, resting metabolic rate and determines a healthy weight goal based on his physiological measures, his athlete status, gender and age. After completing his 3 day dietary record, he returns for his second visit and receives a comprehensive analysis of his diet based on the record and his daily calorie requirement (RMR) measured on his first appointment. Amy provides daily nutrition recommendations, including meal plans and recipes, recommends precise strategies for eating before, during, and after training, and also advises him in pre-competition meal planning. A different client comes to Amy for general guidance with cardiovascular health, as she is turning 51 years old- the same age her mother died from heart disease. This client wants a comprehensive program to asses and improve her cardiovascular health profile. In addition to examining her client's nutrition, Amy orders advanced cholesterol panels, assesses her EKG, BP, tests her cardiopulmonary health on an exercise bike, and then recommends precise HR monitored training to improve her overall health. This client checks in with Amy every 2-3 weeks to fine-tune her diet and exercise program and to confirm her progress. On her 6th visit, Amy repeats all testing and rewards for her hard work towards improving her cardiovascular health.
