Safe, Effective Herbal Remedies Can be Made at Home
Susun Weed, founder of the Wise Woman Center, world-renowned herbalist and author, empowers students to take charge of their health. She does this in part by introducing them to the native wisdom of using plants that grow locally and abundantly, and preparing them in their own kitchens.
Her annual class, "Herbal Medicine Chest," teaches participants simple, safe herbal remedies that ease headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, rashes, wounds, insect bites, bee stings, digestive complaints, candida, sunburn, and more. Remedies such as plantain oil can soothe cuts; yarrow tincture can be used as an insect repellant more effective than DEET; and dandelion root tincture can be carried along on trips to help soothe stomach troubles. At the Wise Woman Center, one can find most of these plants growing wild, so students have the opportunity to see the live plants, harvest them and prepare them, to help ensure success when endeavoring to do so at home.
"Herbal Medicine Chest" will be held at the Wise Woman Center on May 8, 2004, from 10am-5pm. The sliding scale fee of $50-$75 includes a delicious vegetarian lunch.
